Porchlights and Phantoms was born from a lifelong fascination with the stories that seem to linger in the shadows of the South.

Long before the podcast began, host Brendon Sapp was one of six lifelong friends who formed S.A.P.P.—the Southern Association of Paranormal Phenomena. For more than eight years, the team investigated reports of paranormal activity, researched haunted locations, studied local legends, and searched for answers in places where history and the unexplained seemed to meet.

Those years of firsthand paranormal research helped shape the foundation of Porchlights and Phantoms. They created a deeper appreciation not only for the unexplained, but also for the real people, forgotten history, and personal experiences behind every haunting.

Growing up in a small Southern town, Brendon was surrounded by tales of haunted houses, lonely backroads, strange creatures, restless spirits, and places where the past never quite stayed buried. These were the stories shared on front porches, around campfires, and between friends when the night grew quiet and every sound beyond the porchlight felt a little closer than before.

That feeling became the heart of Porchlights and Phantoms.

Each episode explores a different piece of Southern darkness—from historic hauntings and unsolved crimes to local legends, cryptids, and terrifying encounters passed down through generations. Along the way, Brendon digs into the history behind the stories, the people who lived them, and the mysteries that continue to haunt these places today.
